Whether you've recently scheduled an appointment with our Winchester optometrist or are simply considering it, our team at Winchester Optical is here to assist you. Our very own Dr. Joseph Deering is committed to providing you with the best standard of eye and vision care in a comfortable and welcoming environment. Many of our new patients call us with questions as they prepare for their first appointment, and we want to make sure you're as prepared and relaxed as possible when you come in.
When you first show up with your first appointment with us, we'll begin by collecting your new-patient paperwork (which you can print and fill out ahead of time by downloading it online) as well as any insurance information applicable. From there, we'll make sure you see our eye care staff in a timely manner.
Dr. Deering will take some time to get to know your medical history, as well as give you an opportunity to bring up any concerns or questions you may have about your eye and vision health. From there, we can get started on your comprehensive eye exam, which will involve a detailed assessment of your eye health from front to back using a slit lamp microscope to view the eye and its internal structures.
We also have access to a retinal camera, which allows us to see all the way to the backs of the eyes, the optic nerve, and the retinas without the need for dilation drops or those uncomfortable puffs of air. This is key in being on the lookout for signs of eye health problems, such as glaucoma.
During your exam, we'll also perform a series of tests that will assess everything from your visual acuity and peripheral vision to signs of color-blindness and vision conditions like presbyopia, nearsightedness, and farsightedness. If needed, we will adjust your corrective vision prescription while you're here so that you can order new contacts or eyeglasses and see as clearly as possible.
If any potential issues are discovered during your exam, we can make recommendations for further testing. Otherwise, we'll see you again at your next exam, or any other time you want to schedule an appointment with our experienced eye care team.
We hope that this has answered some of your most pressing questions about what to expect from your first appointment with us. Still, if you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our Winchester optometrist by giving us a call at (781) 729-4553. We would be happy to help!
